Jess Coetzee as recently as September represented Australia in Bosnia Herzegovina, as part of the Official Australian Kickboxing Team.
The WAKO World Championships, with over 80 Countries and the best of the best from every nation is selected to represent their country and compete for the coveted WAKO World Title, this event only comes around every 2 years and 2019 saw Sarajevo being the hosts!.
Jess competed in the -70kg Division in ring sports coming away with a win against the USA taking her to the Semi Final Stages, unfortunately after taking a split decision (2 judges to 1) loss, she finished with a Bronze. This was Australia’s first medal of the Week long event and Jess made the whole team proud and inspired. Jess fight was a very close decision with many of the audience and especially Australian Coach Iztok Kese believing Australia had done enough to progress.
Jess was such a important part of the team always working at her 100% in preparation camp in Slovenia where the team was put through 3 sessions daily including Mountain runs to the peak in the beautiful Dolomites of the European Alps at the Slovenian Nordic Olympic Centre of Planica.
Jess never complained and was obvious from her work ethic and improvement over the week that her attitude changed from a participant to a Medal contender. All the coaching team noticed her focus and work ethic and her performance was top notch leaving nothing behind and no regrets.
Jess recently became a Champion Mom to a beautiful baby boy Carter born ~10.06.20~
Jess already is doing a amazing job as a new Mother and we here at WAKO AUSTRALIA are extremely proud of her accomplishments as a athlete and now a new MOM!
We wish Jess all the best in her most important role to date and look forward to her future accomplishments as a parent and hopefully we see her back in the Green and Gold in the future!
